Eric Cathan - B.Mus
Mauritian born guitarist Eric Cathan has been passionate about the guitar since an early age. He has completed all the 'Royal School of Music' graded examinations and also further guitar performance studies at the 'Paris College of Music', studying guitar with the renowned guitarist and teacher Rafael Andia. Eric has also been a commited teacher and performer and a dedicated promoter of the classical guitar for many years.
In 1990, Eric co-founded the 'Sydney Classical Society' and was its artistic director until 1995; he has also been an adjudicator of the prestigious Paris UFAM Guitar Competition between 2006-2008.
Eric has performed with 'Sydney Symphony Orchestra' flautist Michelle Hughes and toured Australia as part of the 'Alhambra Guitar Quartet' with Rafael Andia, Claire Sananikone and Giuseppe Zangari. Other collaborations include performances with string ensembles and string quartets around the country. In addition to performing, Eric is a sought-after guitar tutor and previous engagements include positions at the 'University of New South Wale's, 'Macquarie University', 'Newcastle University' and the 'Central Coast Conservatorium' .
Eric currently runs 'Guitar Passion', an exciting new company dedicated to the organization of concerts for well-established Australian and international guitarists, as well as performances at international music festivals .
